Things to Consider To Find The Best Herb Grinder
Herb grinders are made with a variety of materials and with different uses in mind, which means that in order to ensure you’re making the best purchase, you need to keep the following things in mind:
Materials
A quick google search will show you that herb grinders are often made with different materials.
Wood, aluminum and acrylic are the most popular, but they’re not the only ones.
If you’re looking for an affordable herb grinder, acrylic is your best bet but bear in mind that they’re not particularly resistant and you might have to replace them sooner than you expect.
Aluminum offer a great mix of value and price. They’re stronger than acrylic but more affordable than wooden ones. Since the material is so malleable they can be shaped in different ways and come in various colors, which is always a plus.
Wooden herb grinders are often the most expensive, both because of the materials used to create them and because of their sturdiness and quality. That said, they also tend to be quite simple and many people purchase them for their perceived value rather than their uses.
Chamber Number
Most herb grinders have a single chamber but it’s possible to find herb grinders with more.
More chambers mean a finer grind, so aiming for a two or even three chambered grinders is ideal.
As you can imagine, price does tend to go up the more chambers your herb grinder has so keep that in mind.
As you can see, the consideration depends a lot on your personal preferences so make sure you know what you’re looking for and what you expect before going out and spending your money.

How to Use a Herb Grinder?
Using a herb grinder is actually quite simple, but it can seem a little intimidating at first. After all, what are you supposed to do with all the bits and pieces? What are pollen screens? What does the number of teeth matters?
All of that will be answered soon!
For the purposes of this scenario, we’ll explain how to use a 4 chamber grinder. If yours have less, don’t worry. It gets easier the less chambers they have.
Step 1: Assemble your Herb Grinder
The assembly instructions should be included with your herb grinder, as those do change from product to product.
Still, the order should look a little like this:
- Pollen chamber
- Herb chamber
- Grinder teeth
- Lid
Some herb grinders will come with a pollen screen and other add-ons, so make sure you use those as well.
Step 2: Break Your Herb
Remove the top lid and break the herb you’ll need to grind into pieces before distributing it evenly on the grinder teeth.
For better results, don’t put anything directly in the middle of your grinder as this can clog the magnets and prevent the grinder for closing properly.
Step 3: Start Grinding
Place the lid and screw it securely until you’re sure the lid is in place.
Once that’s done, gently spin the lid a handful of times to start grinding.
If you want a fine grind, try turning the lid around 10 times.
Step 4: Unscrew
Remove the first two sections of the grinder (lid and grinder teeth) to access the herb chamber.
This can be accomplished by grabbing the base with one hand and using your free hand to twist starting from the teeth chamber.
In the herb chamber you’ll be able to find your ground up herbs, which you can use in any way you seem fit.
Step 5: Cleaning the Pollen Chamber
At the bottom of your herb grinder you’ll be able to find the pollen chamber, where you’ll find very fine dust.
Be careful when unscrewing this area, as often the dust is very fine and can easily fine off.
Use as needed.
Note: Some herb grinders will come with a little spoon that will make collecting this easier.
